Shorter explorations and quick ideas

Bruce the Robot

A robot I helped build was just on the Tonight Show. Holy sh*t.

At some point I’d like to go into more detail about how Bruce was built and how he came to be, but for now I’ll give a quick overview:

About six weeks ago my friend Henry Kamp got an email from a produce asking him if he knew anyone who could build an Animatronic, and he showed the producer my portfolio. I’d never built one before, but always wanted to, so I said “yeah I’m game let’s give it a go.” Henry and I teamed up as co-fabricators, and I had my friend Julia Wisnia handle the programming side of Bruce’s AI powered brain. Together the three of us made Bruce move and speak like a champion.

Getting to go to New York to be on the Tonight Show was an incredibly surreal experience. Everyone on the team there was so patient, kind, and professional. Plus it was super cool to see the television machine at work preparing all the necessary elements for the show. I can’t believe it really happened but I’m so so proud and thrilled with how it all came together.
